Saif can marry Kareena: Soha

After Indian football captain Baichung Bhutia and India’s first woman IPS Kiran Bedi, Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan has opted out of the Olympic torch relay in New Delhi on Thursday.

Soha Ali Khan announced her decision here on Tuesday saying she was pulling out of the event citing “very strong personal reasons.”

Significantly, Soha’s decision came on a day when the new Sports Minister M S Gill said he was not in favor of stars or politicians to be associated with the relay on Thursday and those only real athletes should carry the torch.

“I fully support the Olympic relay and am saddened at the disruptions in its path in various parts of the world as well as the violence in Tibet. But I can’t run due to very strong personal reasons,” Soha told reporters.

On suggestions from Sports fraternity that only sportspersons should run the Olympic torch relay, Soha said representatives from various fields belonging to the country through which torch relay passes, should be welcomed to run.

When asked about her forthcoming films, Soha said she was excited about Nishikant Kamat's Mumbai Meri Jaan based on the July 2006 train blasts in Mumbai.

"I play a television journalist and the film takes a hard-hitting look at the media It is a very intense film," she said. Kamat's earlier Marathi movie Dombivili Fast was critically acclaimed and is being remade in many languages.

Soha said at present she was shooting for Dhoondte Reh Jaoge in which she plays a wannabe actress. She said she is also working in UTV's untitled film.

When asked about brother Saif's career and relationship with Kareena Kapoor, Soha said, "If my brother wants to marry her, I am all for it."

On the couple's forthcoming film Tashan, Soha said she liked the promos of the film and was looking forward to see it.

To a question on the 'Kareena' tattoo on her brother's hand, Soha said, "it was a wonderful sign of love and commitment on his behalf."

Ayesha wants to look hot!

Ayesha Takia has been desperately aiming for a slim and sexy figure. In fact, she has been working out hard to cut the flab and tone up her body even as she is shooting for Rajshri's Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi. But all the difficult workout sessions, yoga and strict diet notwithstanding, the Sunday actress still looks the same chubby and cute gal she looked at the start of her career.

No wonder the actress has made-up her mind to go under the knife (read liposuction) as a last resort. A mole reveals that the actress will be heading to London for the much required nips and tucks as soon as she is through with her ongoing shoots.

High time we'd say, Ayesha. Wonder how many plum projects you may have lost by now due to those layers of adipose tissue! Here's wishing many more movies (with the kind of 'hot' roles you are looking at) as you return all trimmed and primed.

Akshay roots for Katrina again

Bollywood's original action star Akshay Kumar has always been the favourite of rumourmongers due to stories of his famous link-ups with his female co-stars. The recent one (old news though) being the one with long-legged lasso Katrina Kaif, of course.

Akshay is said to have promoted Katrina once again for a special appearance in his film, Blue. And this time the statement comes straight from the horse's, rather filly's mouth. The song in the film that witnesses Katrina sizzling onscreen is said to be the most expensive number ever made in Bollywood. "It's been a unique experience to be a part of Blue. I am in the film because of Akshay Kumar. He has got me into this project. I am not much into the financial aspect of the song. All I can say is that I thoroughly enjoyed it," revealed Katrina in a recent interview.

While the onscreen chemistry of the duo had done wonders at the box-office last year, rumours did the rounds that Akshay had been promoting Katrina for almost all his films. However, the 'khiladi' Kumar had totally denied such a thing. He had even said in an interview, "If I had been promoting Katrina then she would have been a part of all my forthcoming projects which is not the case."

But the recent statement from Katrina comes as a contradictory one to Akshay's clarifications. The hottie pair will next be seen in Vipul Shah's Singh is Kinng directed by Anees Bazmee.

Raaz 2 as gratitude, says Kangana

Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut has been extremely busy. She has been working very hard on Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion and is scheduled to start working for the Hrithik starrer Kites very soon. And amidst all this she is also shooting for Raaz 2.

When we met Kangana on the location of Raaz 2 a couple of days back, she was all hassled after having worked for 20-hours at a stretch. "My dates were packed and I was not doing any more films, but when Vishesh Films approached me I took it up just because of my relationship with them," said Kangana.

"This is my way of showing my gratitude to them," she added. Kangana happens to be one of the many faces that were launched in Bollywood by the Bhatt banner. "I am honoured that they chose to work with me again. I consider it a privilege!" said she.

At the same time Kangana also said that working in her first horror flick is getting to her nerves. "When you work continuously on such sets and such volumes you tend to get mentally disturbed. It affects your present life," said the actress. Her colleague Emraan Hashmi, however, is enjoying both – the scenes as well working with Kangana.

"She is a great co-star and it's really nice working with her. We worked together in her first movie, 'Gangster'!" he said. Kangana plays a model in Raaz 2.

Nikhil Advani has been shooting with hectic celerity in China for his new comedy actioner Chandni Chowk To China Town. He now moves to Bangkok.

Outrageous Sherlyn Chopra has grooved her way into the Yash Raj camp and will be romancing none other than Jab We Met hunk, Shahid Kapur.

Yash Raj was keen to sign Sherlyn for his next movie, as he was impressed by Red Swastik performance.

A spokesperson of Yash Raj confirmed the news, “Yes, Sherlyn has been signed by Yash Raj to star in a film by Anurag Singh.”

The untitled flick is a love triangle between Sherlyn Chopra, Shahid Kapur and Rani Mukherjee.

When contacted Sherlyn was quite overwhelmed by the offer, “Yes you are right, now I am a part of the film. It feels really good to get associated with such a big banner in the very onset of one’s career. I was very confident that my hard work would pay me off. Hansika’s mom gives interviews on her behalf

Image
Most of the times journalists are left amazed when teen actress Hansika Motwani gives interviews with utmost grace and maturity. But the truth is that it’s Hansikaa’s mother who actually receives the calls and gives interviews on her behalf.

An insider reveals, “Her mom also wanted to become an actress in her young days, but failed and now she enjoys giving interviews which she always wanted to, and she always make sure to boost her name behind the success of the actress.”

Hansikaa reportedly dislikes her mother’s interference but can’t do anything about it.

Aah! Another pestering mom!

Amrita Rao in love with Goher or Farhan?

Image
There is much confusion over Amrita Rao’s new love is it Goher Mumtaz the lead guitarist of Jal Band or Farhan Saeed the lead vocalist of the band?

An insider revealed, “Goher came to Mumbai to shoot the video Chalte Chalte, with Amrita. During the shoot, the duo became very friendly and gradually grew fond of each other. In fact, the shoot is over long back, but Goher keeps coming to India often.”

When Goher was asked about Amrita he said, “We are good friends. I don’t think there is anything wrong in sharing a great friendship. I don’t have many friends in India. She is one of my closest ones. Amrita and I are in touch. I come to India every month. We like spending time together. In fact, I have convinced her to come to Pakistan and perform here.”

Even Amrita kept mum about her new love, “Yes, I am quite fond of all three members (meaning Goher, Farhan Saeed and Shazi) of the band. It was a great opportunity to work with someone from Pakistan. Even a simple pleasure like sharing an ice cream with someone from across the border is fun. But love is confined only to the video. When I actually fall in love, the whole world will know about it.”

What do we hear next? Amrita in love with Shazi?

Diya Mirza prefers a small role!!

Image
Former beauty queen and Bollywood actress Diya Mirza may not exactly be a (late) Smita Patil or a Shabana Azmi, when it comes to acting, but is quite an able performer.

Unfortunately, she did not get the kind of success in Bollywood that some of the other beauty pageant winners of her era achieved.Nonetheless, Diya is quite a sport and is not at all sore about that. In fact, Diya is quite pragmatic and confesses that she prefers a small role in a prestigious project, rather than playing the lead actress in a z-grader !

As if she was destined to prove right, last Friday's KRAZZY 4 has seen the audience reacting quite favourably to Diya's short but efficient act.

And if that is not enough, May will once again see her in Sanjay Gupta's ALIBAUG (after SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA and DUS KAHANIYAAN) with the one and only Sanjay Dutt.

In keeping up her rule of working in prestigious banners, Diya will be seen in a very important role in UTV's Sujith Sircar directed November release SHOEBITE, sharing screen space with megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

So it appears that Diya has her kitty full with what she prefers!

'Krazzy 4' case highlights Bollywood's copyright woes

Image
Musician Ram Sampat's Rs.20 million out of court settlement with filmmaker Rakesh Roshan for alleged plagiarism has again highlighted Bollywood's ignorance of copyright laws.

Many industry people hailed the decision even though some were against the way Sampat went about securing his rights. The industry reacts:

Subhash Ghai: 'Though I've no right to comment on this case without knowing the inside story I must say we sometimes mistake an inspired re-worked version of a song or film as our own original work of art without realizing the complications of copyright laws.

It's no secret that we in this country have been adapting and re-working on music and movies completely ignorant of the laws. This case has warned us about the future. However I'm sure Rajesh Roshan is talented enough not to pick on anyone's work.

A.R. Rahman: 'No comments. But it's high time everyone cleaned up his act and people started getting fair to creative people.'

Mahesh Bhatt: 'There's always someone somewhere who's smarter than you. This case is a wakeup call for Bollywood. The world has changed. We need to mend our ways. It will now be tougher for us to 'steal' and not get caught.

Manish Acharya: 'When I made 'Loins Of Punjab Presents ...' I got the copyrights for every single evergreen song that I used as part of the music contest. Even the music companies were surprised when I sought permission even to use an eight second clip. I don't watch TV so I don't know the merits of Ram's case. Nor have I heard the 'Krazzy 4' songs. But valuing the IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) is inevitable given the film industry's growth strategy and influx of corporate money into Bollywood.

Alisha Chinai: 'I absolutely agree with Ram Sampat's action. Plagiarism is a way of life in Bollywood. They don't play by rules. They're unethical and they rip off songs, copyrights and royalties of musicians and singers shamelessly. If this continues the music industry will crash.

Kunal Ganjawala: 'Some of us singers have been fighting an ongoing battle against discrimination in the film industry. Do you know we singers in the film industry are still legally known as 'instruments'? Can you imagine Lata-ji (Mangeshkar) and Asha-ji (Bhosle) are 'instruments'? Seen in that light, Ram Sampat's court victory is a big step ahead. I've known Ram for years and have worked with him. He's hugely talented and he doesn't really care about doing music in films. He's happy with his jingles and his ventures abroad including one with the European band INXS, which he has just completed. Ram has opened up the discussion about the importance of musicians in Bollywood. However the Roshans (Rakesh and Rajesh) whom I've worked with in 'Krissh' are honourable people.

I can bet my last song they'd never ever do anything underhand. Apparently the cellphone company Sony Ericsson has goofed up. They sent the Roshans a clearance letter to use Ram Sampat's tune and didn't inform Ram. Five years ago a composer named Rupert Fernandes was paid a pittance for a signature tune for Hutch, which became their product's international theme. If musicians today are thinking and getting big money, I'd say about time. But I still insist the Roshans aren't capable of cheating anyone.

Pritam Chakbraborty: 'I've often been accused of plagiarism, so I'm in a peculiar position as both a musician and an apparent offender. Both Ram Sampat and Rajesh Roshan are wonderful creative people. Ram is a great musician. At the same time I've grown up listening to Rajesh Roshan's tunes. In a way this judgement in Ram's favour is a huge leap for the music industry. On the other hand, the timing of the accusation when producer Rakesh Roshan's film was on the verge of release and he had no option but to pay up is unfortunate.

In the West, musicians are treated decently. Ours is a very disorganised entertainment industry and Ram Sampat has set a definite precedent. And my respect for the judiciary has gone up manifold. An underdog winning a case so speedily....wow! However this precedent can be misused. Even a fiercely original film like 'Chak De India' was accused of plagiarism. Scarily enough the Roshans tried to take proper permission from Sony Ericsson. There was a mess-up. So their intentions were not wrong.

TZP in sign language for speech, hearing impaired children

Image
After having everyone wet their tissues with their tears with his ultra sensitive film Taare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan now plans to dub the same film in sign language for the advantage of the children who are hearing and speech impaired. The ‘brains’ behind this initiative is ‘Anand Mook Badhir Kendra’, an Indore-based NGO, whose director Gyanendra Purohit said that all of the film’s dialogues and songs would be screened in sign language so that the children could also enjoy the movie along with others.

Not just that, he also added that plans are afloat of including the film in the education syllabus. The state police did their bit by providing its cameras and other equipments, due to which the film had been dubbed in sign language within a fortnight.

Way to go Aamir! But do tell us as to what you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner and what you drinks…
